What does the "P" with the lines stand for on my signal stalk? It's racing way over my head.

Parking lights. Taillight and side markers on but headlights are off

I believe that's your parking lights, which would be all the colored marker lights on, minus the headlights.

Parking lights, the most useless feature on a car

That's what I thought but there's no way to turn on that function... my light switch for my low beans is on my dash...

parking lights.. Basically having all your lights on minus the head lights themselves. In a lot of cars these have to be on in order to work the fog light for some reason.

Euro style single side parking lights, if equipped. It's a VW stalk, so it wont work here in the US unless the car is coded up for them. Traditional parking lights would be on the knob, but they also remove that feature from US spec cars, at least on the Golf and GTI.

Basically, pull on the stalk and one side of the car's parking lights come on. Back in Europe this is useful for narrow streets with poor visibility.

It looks like if you pull the stalk all the way towards you? Try it.

Wait, do they stay on when exiting the car? I remember seeing a 2012 imported golf cabrio at work and the lady left the car but the parking lamps remained on.

That's what I thought they were but there's nothing on the stalk to activate the feature.

Yes they certainly do. I've coded my GTI to do this and it unlocks the function. Not my video, but here's the function in action on a Jetta.

Beats me. I also guessed parking lights, but apparently that's not it if your headlight switch is on the dash.

On this switch, the "P" is parking lights:

Kinja'd!!!

But on your stalk, I can't even see a direction to move it in order to activate whatever function the "P" represents, unless it twists or something. What car is it, anyway?

I wish that my VW had traditional parking lights, There's times where I dont want my head lights on but want my DRLs and tail lamps on.

And just so you know, turning it on will not make your car look as good as the F-50 in Sn210's image.

I've tried moving it in all directions, I think the US spec car does not have this feature, It's a 2012 Volkswagen Beetle.

If anything, try to find a local VW club. The community is pretty damn good with getting help where it's needed.

It should generally be the same, but I'm not entirely sure. There isn't much info on the Beetle yet.

When it comes to any DIY or beetle information, there's nothing. I want to replace my headlight bulbs with newer more premium bulbs and there's not even a DIY for that. I also want to put a full exhaust on my car but theres no videos or articles related for me to compare. I guess I'm the only online beetle enthusiast.

I can't help much with the bulbs, but I certainly can recommend an exhaust for you if you've got the 2.0T.
